Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for Children Ages 12-15

Yesterday, May 10th, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized emergency use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccination for children ages 12-15. The final step is approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which is expected tomorrow (5/12/21). Our providers all recommend vaccination for their patients and are very excited about what that means for them and their families. In the initial rush to get vaccination appointments, please keep the following in mind:

– CRCCS will not be administering COVID vaccinations. We recommend you use the MDH Vaccine Finder to identify vaccination locations near you. Vaccines.gov will also allow you to search for locations offering specific vaccines like Pfizer.

– Vaccination will continue to be a supply and demand issue. As supply increases, more locations will be offering vaccination appointments.

– Please be patient. Connect with local vaccination locations using the MDH Vaccine Finder and watch for communication from your primary care clinic.

Children’s Minnesota, as a smaller healthcare system, continues to have limited supply of the vaccine and is vaccinating high-risk patients by invite only.

Adults and children getting vaccinated means a sooner return to school, birthday parties, family holidays, and a lot of other things that you and your children are missing right now. We do not have to let this past year define their childhood. Embrace this opportunity to get your children vaccinated and watch as their worlds expand again.
