Pediatric Pulmonology

Pediatric Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals primarily with the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic breathing problems in children. Our pulmonologists are board certified pediatricians that have spent 3 additional years in their pulmonary "fellowships" learning about lung problems. Since the respiratory system is very complicated and critical for every human function, this study involves a special knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and mechanics.

A pediatric pulmonologist conducts examinations of the patients' respiratory and cardiac systems. To aid in diagnosis, pulmonologists utilize tests of pulmonary function, lab work, chest x-rays and special procedures to view the airway.

Recent advances offer pulmonologists a better understanding of breathing disorders and have led to new, more effective treatments. Some of the most common disorders that pulmonologists treat are: asthma or reactive airways, recurrent pneumonia, broncho-pulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis and congenital lung abnormalities. They also treat lung problems associated with cardiac disease, neuromuscular disorders and injuries. Our pulmonologists are part of a team that works with specialists in cardiology, ENT, neurology, allergy and neonatology.

Outpatient - We have 4 clinics available to the patient with pediatric pulmonary disease. These clinics are located in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Minnetonka and St. Cloud. Please contact us for an appointment in the location most convenient for you.

Inpatient - Our doctors attend on a large pediatric pulmonary service 7 days/week at both Children's Hospitals in St. Paul and Minneapolis.
