Personal Bio

Dr. Andrew Kiragu joins CRCCS from Hennepin Healthcare where he has practiced since 2002 and was most recently the Interim Chief of the Department of Pediatrics. He is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hennepin County Medical Center. He is also co-chair of the Admissions Committee of the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. He completed his undergraduate studies at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada and subsequently graduated from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. He served his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Minnesota. As a pediatric intensivist, Dr. Kiragu cares for critically ill and injured children. He is also engaged in injury prevention efforts and serves on the boards of Safe Kids Minnesota and the Midwest Injury Prevention Alliance. Dr. Kiragu is a strong advocate on behalf of Minnesota’s children and is the Immediate Past President of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has been recognized for excellence in resident and medical student education. His peers have also recognized him as a Top Doctor for his excellence in pediatric critical care in the Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine as well as in the Minnesota Monthly Magazine as a Best Doctor. Dr. Kiragu’s interests include traumatic brain injury in children, pediatric trauma, injury prevention, resident and medical student education, advocacy on behalf of children, quality improvement and global pediatrics. Dr. Kiragu is married with two children.
